Project Overview
The scope behind Foresight Lab was a very intimidating one. They wanted a very high tech look and feel that moved content around inside of a controlled space without reloading or navigating away from the page while keeping the overall concept future proof for a possible mobile solution. In addition to look and feel Foresight also needed the ability to update their own content freely and easily. This proposed a problem since to achieve the visual abilities Foresight required I’d have to design the website entirely in Flash. Flash website aren’t always easily updatable by users. Maybe I’m being too definitive on that: It’s not impossible, just very improbable.
I decided Flash wasn’t the way to go.
Enter Javascript and jQuery. jQuery is a bunch of sub classes of Javascript that allow you to move, change, color, fade, remove objects on the page, among other things. You can create an entire page solely on these classes and your end result will look very much like a Flash website but without the overhead (Flash is a Memory hog). This basic idea got me thinking. What if I bundled all of this together and offered it to my clients as a more affordable and more accessible solution to Flash?

Introducing MICROFICHE UI
What is it? What does it do? Well, It’s all spelled out in the name. MICROFICHE UI (MUI) is a set of Javascript classes from jQuery that allows content surrounded by a shape (rectangle or square) to move within it on an X and Y axis much like looking at Microfilm through a Microfiche. This is all done without refreshing or navigating away from the main page. Giving end users a very cohesive experience. It’s very unique and very cool.
Sure it looks great but editing content is also a breeze. Like most of my projects I’ve integrated MUI with Wordpress which allows for full customization of your content.
